I have been a computer professional
for over 30 years now. The majority of that time was involved with
IBM mainframes, but ever since the first microcomputer was available, I
have always had one - programming a PC was how I relaxed from my work -
I think I need to get a life!!!! On the PC, Turbo Pascal under
DOS was definitely my forte, but when it became clear that the world was
switching to Windows, I realised that I needed to move in that direction
also. I 'borrowed' a copy of TP 1.5 for Windows to try it out, but
the Object Oriented approach left me with a headache. I later had
the opportunity to try Visual Basic and had similar (non) results.
I thought that my hobbiest days of PC programming had come to an end.
I don't know if its my age, or just the years of entrenchment of Procedural
language programming, that made it impossible for me to switch to the Object
Oriented style of Windows programming.
I came across Liberty Basic
on a CDROM stuck to a PC magazine cover, so I thought I would give Windows
programming one more try! I couldn't believe it! I had a small
program working on my first day!!!!! Liberty Basic removed all the
headaches of dealing with OO programming, and allowed me to write in my
familiar Procedural language style.
From what I've learnt using
Liberty, I believe that I could "pick up" Visual Basic immediately if I
had the need, but I get so much fun from developing with LB, plus it is
so easy to use, I doubt that I will be switching for a long time.
If you need something as an
introduction to Windows Programming - there isn't a better product available
- but be careful - you may become a LBoholic like me!!!!
